Aloe vera, also known as the true or medicinal aloe, is a species of succulent plant that probably originated in the southern half of the Arabian peninsula, Northern Africa, the Canary islands and Cape Verde.
Aloe vera grows in arid climates and is widely distributed in Africa, India and other arid areas. The species is frequently cited as being used in herbal medicine. Many scientific studies of the use of aloe vera have been undertaken, some of them conflicting. Despite these limitations, there is some preliminary evidence that Aloe vera extracts may be useful in the treatment of wound and burn healing, minor skin infections, Sebaceous cyst, diabetes and elevated blood lipids in humans. These positive effects are thought to be due to the presence of compounds such as polysaccharides, mannans, anthraquinones and lectins.
Aloe vera plants are readily available and some people keep a potted plant in the kitchen. A leaf spike may be cut open and the gel applied directly to a cut or burn. For other uses, particularly for internal use, commercial gels and juices, which are processed under strict controls, can be found at most health food stores as well as many supermarkets.

Aloe Vera for a healthy heart
Heart disease, as almost everyone knows, or should know by now, can be prevented or at least controlled, simply by knowing that heart disease is 90% a matter of prevention ...with proper diet, the reduction of STRESS, moderate exercise, the elimination of toxins and the lowering of the LDL cholesterol and elevating of the HDL cholesterol in the system. Remember, we talked about "lifestyle habits" and that all habits are equal?
Consider this, in a series of studies of the many primitive societies where the lifestyles are uncomplicated and the food is simple and mostly free of fat, it has been found that there is almost no evidence of heart disease or complications such as arteriosclerosis, hypertension, angina pectoris or diverticulitis.
It is a fact that Aloe Vera can benefit the circulatory system, which lowers triglycerides and LDL, while raising HDL. Aloe can be used to help with coronary artery disease, as well as chest pain, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar. However, Aloe Vera should be added to other medicines. It will help with many things, but it cannot completely replace modern medicine. Consult your doctor before removing any of your current medications.
Aloe Vera helps make improvements in less than 48 hours.
With these "lifestyle habits" of doom and gloom, is there any ray of light? And again, without a doubt, yes there is, just give it a try, this remarkable plant, Aloe Vera.
In test after test, when Aloe Vera is added to the blood samples with high fat and cholesterol, in every test, the Aloe Vera showed a dramatic reduction in both LDL cholesterol and Triglycerides in less than 48 hours. These same tests also showed a significant rise in the HDL or good cholesterol. Now that is some good news!!!
A recent study that used 5,000 people who suffered from coronary artery disease and angina concluded that these people had very poor blood circulation. After Aloe Vera was given to these patients, blood circulation improved, and many angina sufferers no longer showed signs of the disease. While Aloe Vera is not a cure for heart disease, it certainly helps the symptoms and can significantly reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.
When coronary arteries become blocked, blood flow is slowed. When the blood flow slows, any exertion by the body causes a lack of oxygen, which actually starves the heart muscle. If this continues, your heart will become damaged, and you can eventually have a heart attack. Aloe can help your circulation a lot, and can actually reduce the risk of a heart attack.
Aloe Vera can relieve these symptoms, in almost the same way as medicines do. When taking Aloe Vera, platelets don’t get stuck andtherefore, clots do not form. Aloe Vera can also help other organs. Your brain can be damaged severely by poor circulation, and if your brain is damaged, you can have a stroke or even go into a coma. Other organs can be affected by poor circulation, but the heart and brain are the most important.
When you use Aloe Vera, the stickiness of your platelets is drastically reduced. When your platelets are sticky, they group together and clog up your arteries, causing heart attacks and poor blood circulation. While there are certain medications that reduce the stickiness of platelets, Aloe Vera will significantly help in preventing clots. When you use Aloe Vera, your arteries will be healthy, and the buildup of clots will be reduced. Aloe is the only natural medicine that can actually benefit your heart and other organs.
However, you should consult your doctor before switching to Aloe Vera. There is no doubt that Aloe Vera will help your blood circulation and improve your overall health, but if you have a heart condition you should not completely replace your medication with Aloe Vera. This would not be safe as the benefits of Aloe are not completely confirmed, and you could be risking your life by not using prescription medications.
